Roman Road Library
We continue to support the community by managing Roman Road Library. We have 8 volunteers who help with the day to day running of the building and provide support for all accessing the library. The library is open 6 days a week and has been used to provide a safe warm space as well as a place to meet and raise concerns with the elected officials, social landlords and the local police.
The library plays a pivotal role for the Higher Croft community as it is a hub for the area. The volunteers are well known in the community and residents approach them for support and advice, enabling them to signpost people to the right services. Community groups continue to use the library as a base which includes the Monday Makers, Women’s group on a Wednesday, Lego Club which runs on a Saturday and the Pop-Up Church that runs every Sunday. The library can also provide a venue for residents to access courses through Adult Social Care.
The library also houses the Higher Croft Food Larder, a legacy from the Local Conversations project. The Food Larder offers a low cost ‘top up shop’ providing store cupboard basics as well as free bread, cakes and pastries when available through donations from Lidl.
