Trauma Informed Communities
This project is funded by Blackburn with Darwen Public Health. We help deliver the Community Managed Network in partnership with the Council which is part of four other Networks that has been set up by the borough. Our role is to engage with a wide range of 3rd sector and faith partners in our learning journey towards developing Trauma Informed practice across the borough. We use the network to share resources, experiences, skills and learnings and act as a conduit to share good practice and prevent professional isolation, also to avoid duplication and work more efficiently. We are hoping this will in return help to develop policies and procedures which meet the individual needs of each organisation. The Network also helps develop a strength-based approach and valuing commitment to grow together and focus on sector led improvement.
As a borough and Network, we recognise and appreciate that being Trauma Informed takes time for organisations especially at point of contact, but our role is to emphasise how it supports building trusted relationships and enabling people to make choices and engage better. We are also working with wider partners to ensure wrap around support is accessible in a timely fashion for residents and provide support to individuals seamlessly, without having to retell their story.
As part of the role of managing the Network we also deliver presentations at conferences across Lancashire and the Northwest on Blackburn with Darwen’s journey of becoming Trauma Informed and how we are ‘Making it Happen’
